Songs for the Evening

Last night, I sat on the couch in between two girls, one my wife-to-be and one the personal attendent listening to them shout "If you wannabe my lover, ya gotta get wit my friends!"  I'll let you paint the rest of the picture...

We spent two hours searching the internet and spotify for dance songs for Kristi and I's wedding this coming December.  Needless to say, it was a step back in time listening to some of the classic dance songs of the 90's.  We will have some pretty bumpin' beats. :)

So that is why this morning and all throughout today, I've got classic hits running through my mind.  It makes me happy.

In other news, today is Thursday and the second day in a row I am posting an update.   Get used to it folks!  Ta-ta for now!

Career

I love my new career so far at Jostens, Inc.  It has been a while since I have posted here and that is because I am kept pretty busy these days.  The Lord has blessed me with a wonderful full time career with Jostens, Inc working as a Help Desk Analyst.  I spend my days with the most wonderful group of people and that is good because sometimes working at a "call center" can be difficult.

However, there are those very rewarding moments when you can say you resolved an issue and the customer is completely estatic with joy.  I had that moment today and I have that moment almost once per day.

I also really enjoy my career because our site admin here just handed me a Samsung tablet to "play with" during downtimes.  So far I am thoroughly enjoying it moreso than my Asus Transformer tablet as this has a full size qwerty keyboard dock station.  I will continue to enjoy it and post updates here more often.

The Game

Lately I have been playing the recent graduate try and find a job game.  It has not been good to me.  Never have I ever felt so confident but so crushed at the same time.  Every interview comes and goes with a disappointing: "We hired the other guy."  I don't understand what I am doing that doesn't qualify me for these jobs.  Every time I interview I feel like I answer the questions great and even become friendly with the interviewers, all while demonstrating my knowledge and experience.

I had thought that getting a job as a help desk worker would be easy looking at the nearly 30,000 IT openings in Minnesota alone.  But there must be double or triple that many folks trying to get at these openings.  I am quickly finding out that entry level does not mean entry level.

Through this process I have been reading through Scripture and it has been very relieving.  It has put my mind and heart at ease because though I do not know God's timing, I have faith it is perfect.  I have been touched to intentionally dive into my own hobby and turn it into a side business.  Something that will hopefully supplement my income and allow me to pay my debtor back the money that I have borrowed.

So there you have it, I'm starting a business.  What is said business? You may ask.  I don't have a name yet but it is a service-based business.  The main goal is to provide technical support and development to churches in order that they may spend their time doing ministry and not fixing technology issues.  I plan on using my experience and knowledge of the inner workings of church communities and all things technical to ensure the greatest amount of outreach impact and appeal for the Christian community through the use of technology.

I look forward to this journey that God is taking me down.  And most importantly look forward to serving the congregations in need in this Twin Cities Community.

Christmas Comes Too Soon

This year more than any year before, Christmas snuck up on me.

I was found at the stores with all the other men doing some last minute Christmas shopping.

Why does Christmas always seem to sneak up on people?  We believers know that we celebrate Christ-Mass.  The birth of our Savior.  The answer to our questions.  The hope amidst hopelessness.  The good paying job during recession.  The beauty of it all is that Jesus Christ was born to save the entire world, not just believers.  God wants the whole world to be saved.

However, the season before Christmas is Advent, which is the anticipation of both Christ's first birth, but also Christ's promised second coming.  This second coming will sneak up like a thief in the night.

This is very much how I feel about Christmas this year, it snuck up on me and I bet it snuck up on others as well.  I hope that when Christ really does come for the second time, that we all are ready for it.
